BOLLYWOOD comes to MACKAY!
A new sound has hit the airwaves of Mackay from 4CRM, 107.5FM Community Radio Mackay, the sound of “BOLLYWOOD WAVES”.
Members of the Indian Community, hungry for some of the sounds of their Mother country have acquired the 5 to 6 o’clock time slot on Sundays on Mackay’s community radio station 4CRM.
BOLLYWOOD originated in the rapidly growing film industry of India and has provided the base for an equally prolific music industry. The repertoire is vast with catchy song and dance tunes, Bhangra being the most popular but there are many genres such as gazals (poetry with soft music), sufi music, (mystical branch of Islam) and gawwali, bajans (devotional songs), pop, disco etc..
Music directors have lately been influenced by rock, rap and hip-hop music. Old songs have been re-mixed with fast modern tunes with great success. Besides this there is a volume of songs in various regional languages of India together with Indian classical music with origins in ancient scriptures.
The music is often incorporated in movies and captures the moods and plot of the film and nowadays composer and bands are enjoying success away from the framework of movies. The music is immensely popular in the entire subcontinent and, indeed many musicians from Pakistan have showcased their talents in India.
